1Allah states: “Verily the first house established for mankind (to worship Allah) was in Bakkah (Makkah). A blessing and guidance for all the worlds. In it are many clear signs. (One of them being) the Maqam-e-lbrahim (place of Ibrahim). Whoever enters it has attained safety.” [Surah Aal-e-Imran Verses 96/97]
2Ibraheem (as) made dua for Makkah and it’s inhabitants. Allah says in qur’an: “And recall when lbrahim beseeched: O my Rabb! Make this city safe and grant its residents fruits, those amongst them who believe in Allah and the last day.” [Surah Al- Baqarah verse 126]
“And (remember) when Abraham said: ‘O my Lord! Make this city (Makkah) one of peace and security, and keep me and my sons away from worshipping idols.’ [surah al Ibraheem]
33. The best place on earth. The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: “The best and the most beloved city on the face of this earth to Allah is Makkah.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)
Allah states: “A pure land and a forgiving Lord.” [Surah Saba, verse 15]
While departing from Makkah, Rasullullah (sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) halted on a plateau, faced the Qibla and said: “By Allah! You are the most beloved portion of Allah’s earth to me, and verily you are the most beloved portion of the earth to Allah too. Verily you are the best, spot on the face of the earth. And the most beloved to Allah. If your people did not expel me, I would not have departed from you.” [Al-Muatta]
The messenger (saw) stated: “The earth was rolled out from Makkah. Allah stretched (the earth) from underneath it. Thus it is called the mother of all cities.” [Al-Bukhari]
4 The one who falls ill in the Makkah is rewarded. The Prophet (saw) said: “Anyone who falls ill in Makkah for one day, Allah renders his body and his flesh haram (forbidden) from the fire of Jahannam.” [Al Bukhari]
“Anyone who endures the heat of Makkah with patience for an hour of the day, Allah will distance that person from the fire of Jahannam by a distance of a journey of five hundred years and bring him closer to Jannah by a distance of a journey of two hundred years. Indeed Makkah and Madinah eject any impurities within them like flames eject rust from iron. Understand carefully! Difficulties and calamities abounded in Makkah right from its inception. Great stages are realised by enduring these difficulties.” [Al Muslim]
5The Prophet (saw) will intercede for a person who lives in Makkah. Rasullullah (saw) stated: “If it is possible for anyone to die in any one of the two Harams, then let him die there. For I will be the first to intercede on their behalf. They will be safe from the punishment of Allah on the day of Qiyamah. No reckoning will be taken from them nor will they be punished.” [Sunan Tirmizi, Ibn Majah, Musnad Imam Ahmad.
6A blessed death. “Anyone who died in the Haram is like one who died in the fourth heaven.” [Sahih Bukhari, Ibn Hibban]
“On the day of Qiyamah, Allah will resurrect one who died in the sacred Haram of Allah or in the Haram of Rasullullah(sallallahu alaiyhi wassallam) or died between Makkah and Madinah, on hajj or on umrah, amongst those who have attained salvation. Indeed love for the water of Zamzam is safety from hypocrisy.” [AlBukhari, Al Muslim)
7The Dajjal cannot enter Makkah. Annas (ra) reported that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said: “There will be no town which Ad-Dajjal will not enter except Makkah and Medina, and there will be no entrance (road) (of both Makkah and Medina) but the angels will be standing in rows guarding it against him, and then Medina will shake with its inhabitants thrice (i.e. three earth-quakes will take place) and Allah will expel all the non-believers and the hypocrites from it.” [Al Bukhary]
8Masjid al Haraam is one of the three holiest mosques in the Islamic world. Muslims not only come during the month of Dhul Hijjah to perform hajj, but throughout the year to perform ummrah. The mosque covers an area of 356,800 square meters and can accommodate up to 820,000 worshippers during the Hajj. Prayer in Masjid al Haraam is better than a thousand prayers in ay other masjid.
Abu Huraira (ra) reported Allah’s Messenger (saw) as saying: “Prayer in my mosque is more excellent than a thousand prayers observed in other mosques except the Masjid al- Haram.” [Al Muslim]
