Madinah is the second holiest place in the world. It is the city where our beloved Prophet Muhammad (saw) is buried. There are three main names of Madinah:
- Yahthrib- This was the original name before Islam. It is said to be named after a person in the tribe of ‘Ubail, who was the direct descendent of Prophet Nuh (as) and was the founder of Yathrib. This name was later changed to…
- Al Madinah- The Messenger of Allah (saw) changed the name to al Madinah after migration.
- Tabah- The Messenger of Allah (saw) said: “Verily, Allah the Almighty, the All-Powerful named it Tabah.” [Al Bukhary and Al Muslim]
Initially the occupants of Yathrib were three main tribes: The Amalekites (of which was the tribe of ‘Ubail, as mentioned above), the Jews and Qahtani tribes; Al Aws and Al Khazraj.
